Biocidal product family guidance document
Because some biocidal product families have expanded enormously into an unworkable concept for the competent authorities, a guidance document is being prepared that specifies the concept of a product family. The Biocidal Products Regulation assumes that the members of a product family have comparable composition, uses, efficacy and risks. The uniform interpretation of ‘comparable’ has been elaborated by a task force consisting of representatives from a number of Member States and the industry. The guidance document will be ratified soon. After that the Ctgb will announce a workshop on this topic. The guidance can already be used for pending applications on a voluntary basis. It is then possible to split the application, at initially higher costs, but with the certainty that the competent authorities can complete the assessment.
