Marcel van Raaij new Secretary-Director of the Ctgb
Dr. Marcel van Raaij (58) has been appointed Secretary-Director of the Board for the Authorisation of Plant Protection Products and Biocides (Ctgb) in Ede, with effect from 15 June 2024. He succeeds Ingrid Becks-Vermeer, who indicated early this year that she would step down from her position before the summer.
Marcel van Raaij previously held the position of Acting Director European, International & Agro economic policy (EIA) at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV). He also served as programme director responsible for the Inspection and Surveillance system at the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). Before that, Marcel held several managerial positions at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS), including Director of Medicines and Medical Technology at VWS and Director of Environment and Safety at the RIVM. At the RIVM, he also worked as Director of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Technology and headed the Toxicology and Risk Assessment Department. Van Raaij previously headed the Centre for Substance and Integral Risk Assessment and, as Programme Director for COVID-19 vaccination, led the implementation and coordination of the COVID-19 vaccination programme. Van Raaij studied medical biology and has a PhD in animal physiology.
Commenting on the appointment, Rob van Lint, Chairman of the Ctgb, said: "The work of our organisation is currently in the spotlight. With the appointment of Dr van Raaij, the Ctgb has gained an experienced director with relevant knowledge of the Ctgb's broad sphere of activity and thorough understanding of the national and European playing field. I welcome him to this challenging position. We are confident that he will fulfil the pivotal role between the Board and work organisation with verve and will continue to invest in relationships with all our stakeholders."
